Family photography North Yorkshire
This was a cracking photo shoot with Sarah, Suzi and 1 year old Olive.
Olive was a joy to photograph as she practised her new walking and running skills. She snacked, played on the bed and the stairs. Then on the swings and see-saw in her local park which was no ordinary local park….
I’ve got to be honest there’s a bit of a story behind these pictures.
I had done this shoot a couple of weeks earlier and had had a bit of a disaster. I’d bought a new camera just the day before and was planning to find my way around it on the train journey to the shoot. However, when I got to the train station the main car park was closed. And I didn’t have time to go to another car park and walk back to the station before the train was due.
So I ended up driving to the shoot, thinking y’know, because my camera was very similar to my old one it’d be fine….wouldn’t it?
Nope. My old camera felt like an extension of myself and was completely effortless to use. This new one was similar but different enough to make me have to stop and think of basic settings. So in no time I realised I’d have to wing it a little. Instead of saying something and being afraid of looking unprofessional, I carried on, spending most of the session being conscious of my camera rather than in the moment with this ace family.
The pictures were nice, but for me they lacked a certain je ne sais quoi. So I swallowed my pride and asked if I could come back and do the whole shoot over again. Sarah and Suzi being the two wonderful women they are were thankfully very understanding and accommodating and off we went again.
This time I was completely in the moment and had a different shoot altogether. And the results were well worth the effort of putting my hands up and saying, ‘I messed up’ ♥️ (and on top of that I received a refund from the train company).
